We are seeking a skilled IT individual to be the primary on-site operation technician for one of Cheshire County's campuses. Our team maintains computer applications, networking, server operations, telephones, and office automation services for all systems and users in all County departments. Please note:  THIS IS NOT A HELPDESK POSITION!!!!

To be considered, candidates should be familiar with managing Windows Server including Hyper-V and standard VM operations. A basic understanding of networking is required, including switch functions, routing, IP assignments, and layer2/layer3 principles. The ability to follow procedures, manage time and tasks effectively, and troubleshoot common problems proactively is required. Previous employment using these technologies is ideal, but self-taught skills and hands-on experience with server and networking operations can also qualify you.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, or replace all computer, telephone, and network equipment according to department best practice or as directed.
  • Install productivity and application software consistent with County standards
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment in accordance with department best practice.
  • Monitor endpoint health including backups, anti-virus status, and DNS filter operations.
  • Monitor availability of all County data and telephone resources, computer-based services, and LAN/WAN operation.
  • Assist in testing new hardware and software before full-scale installation.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory and location log of all equipment using department systems.
  • Monitor computer supply inventory; requests additional inventory as necessary.
  • Document procedures used to resolve processes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Serve as a point of contact for IT support within the County.
  • Respond to end-user requests for remote or in-person hardware and software assistance.
  • Escalate issues to other team members as required to ensure resolution. Continue to track incidents until resolved.
  • Create promptly and maintain accurately written records of all activity using County tracking systems.

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of endpoint computer operation. One year of related experience or equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of current Windows operating systems in desktop environments
  • Basic knowledge of IP networking and protocols and principals and LAN/WAN operation
  • Ability to use and familiarity with simple tools and electronic test and diagnostic equipment necessary for routine maintenance and repair of hardware
  • Ability to work as a team member to support departmental goals
  • Ability to recognize and act in accordance with department priorities in both routine and emergent situations
  • Ability to be resourceful, work with minimal supervision when appropriate, and manage time effectively to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form, both with end-users and within the department chain of command.
